This September, Bogin, Munns & Munns, P.A. is proudly participating in FASD Awareness Month. Our goal is to raise awareness about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) and celebrate the strengths, talents, and triumphs of the estimated one in twenty Americans living with FASD. This year is particularly significant as we commemorate the 51th anniversary of FASD recognition in the United States, first identified in 1973. We have a series of exciting activities planned to honor this milestone.

Throughout September, there will be numerous opportunities to engage in advocacy, support, and community initiatives centered around FASD. On September 9th, we will join the global community in observing FASD Awareness Day. We encourage everyone to get involved in spreading awareness and fostering understanding about FASD, not just on this day but throughout the entire month.

At Bogin, Munns & Munns, our attorneys and staff are proud to participate in the #RedShoesRock campaign. By wearing red shoes, we aim to raise awareness about the risks of alcohol consumption during pregnancy and its potential impact on developing FASD.

We invite everyone to join us in this vital cause as we work towards a more informed and compassionate society regarding FASD. Let’s rock our red shoes and spread the message throughout September!

Orlando Clinic for FASD Diagnosis to receive funding from the State of Florida

In collaboration with Orlando Health and the Florida Center, the satellite clinic is the first of its kind in Central Florida and only the second in the state. The medical staff have been diagnosing what doctors consider an ‘invisible disability’ at birth, impacting as many as one in 20 children. So far, the clinic has the capability of provide diagnostic services to four families per month and there is a waiting list.

Spencer and Lindsay Munns have been actively involved in bringing awareness to this disability and in trying to bring a clinic to Central Florida for some time. Their efforts were key in garnering the awareness and support of Representative Barnaby and the State of Florida.

Earlier this year, Munns credited Rep. Barnaby for his continuous effort working vigorously with Florida Sen. Lori Berman on legislation that would ultimately make an enormous impact for the FASD community in Central Florida and set a standard for other states to follow.

He also noted the phenomenal support from Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings who last year issued a county-wide Proclamation regarding FASD and Gov. Ron DeSantis did the same for the entire state of Florida.

“FASD-related issues are certainly worthy of the incredible local and statewide support of this clinic,” he said. “We are grateful for every person who has brought light to a cause that is so near and dear to our hearts at Bogin, Munns & Munns – we are beyond proud of our progress and look forward to the clinic’s continued success and the possibility to provide services to even more families each month.”
